However, a variety of issues can occur if the installation of a resin driveway isn’t managed correctly, and knowledge of these problems can ensure that your new driveway impresses you for years to come.
Avoid adverse weather during installation
Resin driveways are reliable, flexible and hold up well during all types of weather conditions. However, you need to ensure that your resin driveway installation is carried out during calm and dry weather; only once the material is fully dry will you start noticing its benefits. Whilst it’s being applied the resin is more susceptible to weather conditions, meaning that precautions are necessary during installation.
Can you lay resin in the rain?
Rain is an inescapable part of living in the United Kingdom and unfortunately, that can cause issues with the installation of resin driveways. So planning the work around the weather as much as possible is key. Cover the site and all equipment during rain using a high-quality gazebo (or something similar) and cover any surrounding stone with tarpaulin to keep the resin safe. How does hot weather affect resin application?
In hot weather resin cures at a quicker rate causing issues if the driveway installation isn’t complete before the surface dries. If the surface reaches around 35 degrees celsius or higher, issues can occur. Therefore, it makes sense to start early in the day and keep the resin and aggregates under shade and somewhere with good air circulation in order to avoid any problems.
Ensure resin has fully dried before walking on the surface
One of the most irritating issues with creating aggregate resin driveways is when people (or pets) stand on the material before it’s dry, disrupting the surface and ruining the smooth finish. To try and avoid this, use warning tape and do your best to ensure that any pets are kept away from the resin whilst wet.
Accidents happen though, and if this does happen whilst your resin driveway is being installed there are ways of correcting the issue. The area can normally be re-troweled or the mixture can be reapplied to the small area, saving any unnecessary additional costs.
